In Canada there is no law banning the carrying in public knives with sheaths, knives that take both hands to open and any knife with a fixed blade are legal in Canada and certain non-prohibited folding knives. Knives only become the law’s concern in Canada after being used to threaten, injure or for the purpose of committing a criminal offence.

Moreover, in Canada every Provinces and Territories, municipality, city, police, and court of justice may have different perspective and views of looking at this subject. Under the Criminal Code of Canada there is no blade size restrictions. The knife you carry has to be visible and CANNOT be concealed. If your travelling by road. It is not always illegal to bring a knife or a firearm into Canada via US-Canada border. However, the rules and requirements surrounding bringing a knife into Canada are very strict - if you do not follow them or declare a knife or other weapon properly, you could be arrested or denied entry into Canada. 

Certain types of knives are not allowed to enter Canada, including all illegal knives we mentioned above. In other words, knives which have the blade easily concealed or spring loaded will not be allowed into Canada. However, it is likely that you may be able to come into Canada with a knife if you have a reasonable and legitimate explanation for bringing the knife into Canada, such as chef’s knife, hunting or fishing trip, outdoor camping, antique knives or decorative swords. Regardless, always answer the border agent’s questions truthfully when coming to Canada and declare anything you aren’t sure about. After all, it is up to the border agent who is processing you through customs to determine whether or not you can across the border with the knife.
